BORDER CATS WIN WILD ONE OVER EXPRESS TO SNAP 10-GAME LOSING STREAK

In front of an enthusiastic crowd on Friday night at Port Arthur Stadium, the Border Cats were able to squeak out a 13-11 victory over the Eau Claire Express. Thunder Bay found themselves in an early hole trailing 6-1 but popped 5 on the board in the bottom of the 2nd capped off by Willie Bourbon scoring on a wild pitch. Eau Claire retook the lead in the 4th, but the Border Cats had another huge inning in the 5th scoring 4 runs. Brandon Bossard started it off by scoring on a balk, and then Brandon Trammell drove in 2 with a triple, Bourbon wrapped up the scoring with a sac fly to plate Trammell. Trammell finished 2-for-4 with a 2 RBI. Cam Pearcey playing in his final game with the Border Cats this summer also had 2 hits in the contest. He finished with a .347 batting average on the season. Wryland McKnight making his Thunder Bay debut out of Western Oregon University picked up the win throwing 3 innings giving up just 1 earned run. Andrew Gross then shut it down with a 6 out save. It wasn’t the cleanest game in the field as Eau Claire finished with 6 errors, while Thunder Bay had 4. The Border Cats continue their 4-game home stand Saturday night as they welcome the Rochester Honkers for the 1st of two. 1st pitch is 6:05 pm. It is Telus Cup night at the ballpark. Thunder Bay is the 2019 host of the Midget AAA Canadian national hockey championship which runs from April 22nd-28th.
