The Thunder Bay Border Cats hung tough against the Rochester Honkers, but fell short losing 5-2 before a Friday night crowd of 974 at Port Arthur Stadium.  The Honkers took advantage of walks and scored four runs in the third inning with the big blow a bases loaded double by Mattie Thomas (University of San Francisco).  With the score 5-0, Daylan Pena (Texas State University) brought the fans to their feet with a two-run homer in the sixth inning, his first of the season, but the Cats couldn’t get any closer.
Kyle Gearding (Case Western Reserve University) suffered his first loss as he gave up four runs on four hits and three walks over 2 1/3 innings.  Thunder Bay native Will Droll (University of Pittsburgh) had another stellar outing out of the bullpen as he pitched two scoreless innings and struck out five Rochester batters.
The Border Cats and Honkers play game three of their four-game series on Saturday at 6:35pm.  Evans Hendricks (Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi) is the scheduled starter on the mound for Thunder Bay.  The lefthander has made four starts on the season and is 0-0 with a 4.60 ERA.
