Kalamazoo, MI – Devin Skapura threw a complete game shutout to earn the Wisconsin Woodchucks their fifth win in six days, as the Chucks defeated the Kalamazoo Growlers 6-0 at Homer Stryker Field.

Skapura gave up just three hits, walked nobody and struck out nine hitters en route to his second victory of the season. Skapura set down 19 in a row stretching from the second inning to the eighth inning Sunday. He has pitched 21 straight innings of scoreless ball for the Chucks.

The Woodchucks owned the first lead for the ninth time in ten games. They got on the board in the fourth inning. Taylor Kohlwey reached on a base on balls and advanced to second on a past ball. Kohlwey then scored as Ramsey Romano reached on an error by Jordan Stading.

Wisconsin put together a much bigger inning in the sixth. The Chucks scored four runs on three hits and two errors. Ty Black recorded a two-RBI single and Jared Oliva had an RBI-single as well in the frame.

The Chucks padded their lead in the ninth with one run. Oliva reached on a fielder’s choice after Black was hit by a pitch. Oliva then stole second base, his third stolen base of the day and 18th of the season. Albee Weiss plated Oliva with a single to right field, putting the Chucks up 6-0.

Wisconsin enters the Northwoods League All-Star break with an 8-9 record in the second half of the season. Three Woodchucks – Max Ponzurick, Albee Weiss and Robert Zeigler – will be participating in the All-Star Game at Witter Field Tuesday. The Woodchucks return to action Thursday against the Growlers at Athletic Park.
