Six-run Rockford first inning too much for 'Chucks to overcome

 

Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks (13-11) fell to the Rockford Rivets (12-13), 12-5, at Athletic Park in Wausau, Wisconsin. 

Stevie Mangrum (Virginia Tech) had two doubles and a run scored. Fellow Hokie Mac Caples (Virginia Tech) had an RBI double of his own to go with a single. George Janca (Texas A&M) pounded out three hits, driving in one.

The 'Chucks picked up 13 hits as a team, bringing their total to 27 in the two-game series and 77 in their last six game — an average of nearly 13 hits per game.

Devin Skapura (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) took the hard-luck loss — his first of the year — after giving up three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.
