Madison, WI – It’s a record-setting night as the Woodchucks come away with the series split over the Madison Mallards tonight on the road, 10-6.
Max Galvin (Miami) sets a new franchise single-season RBI record at 63, surpassing Paul DeJong (2014) and Steve Passatempo (2016), who both set and tied the old record at 61. As a team, the Woodchucks set a new record for most wins in a single season at 45, breaking the old record of 44 set by another Corey Thompson (Keiser) managed squad in 2021.
The Woodchucks struck first in the top of the 1st inning when Max Galvin hit a sacrifice-fly to score Jake Berkland (Mankato). After relinquishing the lead, the Chucks stormed right back in the 3rd, when Max Galvin knocked his 11th home run of the season, a two-run shot that put the Chucks ahead 3-2. It is also what earned him RBI numbers 61 and 62, setting the new franchise record.
The Chucks added to their lead in the 4th, when Travis Lutz (Bradley University) slashed his first hit of the season, a double that scored Bryce Hubbard (Oregon State). Lutz would come around to score off of a lineout by Jake Berkland to lead 5-2.
The Chucks added to their lead in the top of the 5th inning; Samuel Fischer (FIU) scored on a single from Travis Lutz, and Christian Smith-Johnson (Corpus Christi) earned his first RBI of the night, a single that scored Hayden Christiansen (Xavier). Bryce Hubbard would also score on a sacrifice-play by Jake Berkland (Mankato), to make the score 8-4.
Vance Sheahan (USC-Upstate) would enter his name on the books, slashing a single that scored Christian Smith-Johnson, before Max Galvin picked up his 4th RBI of the night, knocking home Jake Berkland.
As a pitching staff, the Chucks would earn 5 strikeouts and a combined ERA of 6.00 thanks to the arms of Jake Molloy (Keiser), Garrett Brogdon (Simpson University), Caleb White (Georgia State), and Seth Clausen (Minnesota).
The Chucks will return home tomorrow, August 5th to kick off a 4-game home stand! They’ll face the Kenosha Kingfish for First Responders Night! The Woodchucks are thanking our area first responders with complimentary box seat tickets with ID.
