Corey Thompson to Return as Woodchucks Field Manager
Wausau, WI — The Woodchucks are thrilled to announce Corey Thompson will be returning as the team’s Field Manager for the 2024 season! Thompson was Field Manager of the team for the record setting 2021 (44-28) and 2022 (38-33) seasons, when the team made their first playoff appearance in eight years.
“I’m extremely excited to return to Wausau next summer!” states Thompson, “Being a part of this organization is honestly something special. The support from the team and the city is second to none. I’m really looking forward to seeing all the fans again and trying to bring a Northwoods League Championship back to Wausau!”
“Corey has done a great job of bringing in top talent to the Wausau, which can be seen by the on the field records and eight draft picks in 2023 MLB draft, six in the first six rounds. He understands the dynamics of the Northwoods League and how to be successful. We’re excited to be bringing him back to Wausau,” says Woodchucks President & General Manager Ryan Treu.
Thompson is currently the Pitching Coach at Keiser University. Prior to Keiser, Thompson spent a season at Point University as the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. In his lone season at Point University, he instructed a Golden Spikes Semifinalist along with seven All-Conference and two All-Region pitchers.
Thompson began his collegiate coaching career at Coastal Alabama Community College as the Pitching Coach for a season. He went on to spend three seasons as the Pitching Coach at NCAA Division II, Spring Hill College. In addition, Thompson has several years of collegiate summer ball experience.
