Rafters hold off the Rockers and continue their hot streak

Wisconsin Rapids, WI— The Rafters hold on for a victory and sweep the Green Bay Rockers by a score of 5-3. They out hit Green Bay 10-8 and secured their 5th win of the season. 

The Rafters got things going in the bottom of the second with the San Diego product, Jack Gurevitch, making his first appearance at the plate this season. Jack absolutely smashed a 2 run shot into deep left center field that sent Basseer along with himself home to give them an early 2-0 lead.

The bottom of the 4th came and the bats continued for the Rafters. Gurevitch kept his hot start going by nailing a ball into deep left center to give him a lead off double. Then Ty Johnson was up and lined a ball into center field to send Gurevitch home. The Rafters then went up 3-0.

The Texas native, Calen Graham, got the start on the mound and was dealing early. He recorded 5 strikeouts only allowing 2 hits on 12 batters faced. Miakiah Negrete then stepped on the mound and acquired 4 more strikeouts. The Rafters bullpen had 10 total strikeouts throughout the night. The Rockers got a run back in the top of the 7th. The bottom of the 8th came around and the rafters offense struck again. Ty Johnson recorded another hit and the Rafters had 2 people on base. Wisconsin Rapids had Ty on 2nd and Logan Hugo pinch ran for Alex Duffey who got to first off an error. Brandon Rogers was up and smashed a ball into center field which allowed Johnson to get home from 2nd. Galason followed it up with an Rbi single to right field that put Hugo home. Rats then went up 5-1 heading into the 9th.

A scare came in the top of the 9th as pinch hitter Mateo Mathews belted a 2 run homer into right field which put the score at 5-3. Seton Hill product, Blake Barker, was able to retire the side and improve the Rafters record to 7-5. They have another series with the Wausau Woodchucks tomorrow at Witter Field. First pitch is scheduled at 6:35
