Duluth, MN- The Big Sticks give away the game in extra innings, falling to 4-4 on the season.
You would have thought that this game was going to go great for The Big Sticks when we opened the scoring up in the first inning. We started off strong with Cooper Hills double into left field that scored Quade Peters and Evan Appelwick would score on an error by left fielder Brady Sullivan. They would tack on another run in the 2nd on a Nekoliczak stolen base but the Huskies would match that with a RBI single from Boots Landry. In the 4th inning, Joe Vos would homer out to right field to make it a 3-2 game.
The next few innings the scoring would go back and forth. Andrew Fazio would be walked in for the first run of the inning and a sac fly from MJ Sweeney would score the second. In the fifth, Gunnar Hansen would be walked in and Kaden Carpenter would have a 2 RBI double. The Huskies would get another run in the seventh from a RBI groundout by Landry. The Big Sticks would go into the bottom of the ninth looking like they were gonna win this one but the Huskies would have other plans. An RBI single by Vos, a sac fly from Charlie Sutherland, and hit batter would send this game into extra innings.
The Big Sticks would start extra innings off great with a wild pitch to move Appelwick over to third and a second wild pitch would send him home to give the Sticks the lead. They would go into the bottom of that inning feeling great. However, Vos would once again spoil our night. He would double into left field to score the tying run and be the runner that crosses the plate and wins the game on a Vos single. The Sticks will end this road trip going a measly 2-4 and are excited to be back home at Dakota Community Bank and Trust Ballpark. They will be playing St. Cloud on Wednesday at 6:30 so lets welcome them back with a loud crowd.
