Dickinson, ND- The Big Sticks take the win in extra innings 3-2 behind a stellar start and closing performances by co-players of the game Sam Nitzke and Roman Tolbert.
Nitzke would have one of the best performances of any of the starters tonight. He would pitch 6 full innings tonight, shutting the Mud Puppies out. He would have a team high 7 strikeouts, giving up only 1 walk and 1 hit. At the plate, the Sticks would open things up in the bottom of the second. Troy Berg would slam a double into left field and Dane Jones would score him on another double to left field. The Sticks would score again in the 6th on a solo Evan Appelwick homer.
Despite being up 2-0 in the 6th, it was not the best offensive outing from the team thanks to a solid performance from Mud Puppies pitcher Liam Martin. Even though he gave up the earned runs, he would strikeout 7 batters with no walks. The Mud Puppies would tie up the game in the top of the 8th. Tanner Thompson would score on a drop third strike and Nick Ibrahim would score Matthew Maulik on a single to right.
Tolbert would come in in the 9th and have two shut down innings. He would strikeout 4 batters and would only give up 1 hit. In the bottom of the 10th after loading the bases, Mud Puppies pitcher Trey Sejnoha would hit batter Jake Paczkowski. Cooper Hill would walk stylishly across home plate for the win.
