The Badlands Big Sticks (8-7) entered this game against the La Crosse Loggers (14-3) with a chance to close the gap on the St. Cloud Rox, who lead the Great Plains West division with a record of 11-4.

The Big Sticks came in swinging, getting an RBI double from Ryker Schow (Brigham Young University) and an RBI single from Connor Massimini (East Texas Baptist University) to give Badlands the early 2-0 lead.

Loggers got things rolling in the home half of the third, scoring on a Kedren Kinzie sac fly RBI along with an RBI single from Mateo Gray and a wild pitch that brought in Kanon Sundgren to put La Crosse in front 3-2.

Big Sticks managed just six hits throughout the game, due in large part to the performance of Loggers starting pitcher Tyler Gebb who pitched six scoreless innings after the first. Putting up 7IP, 2.95 ERA, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 K, 1 BB.

Getting the call on the diamond for Badlands was Tyler Weimer (Arkansas State University), who pitched four innings with a 5.63 ERA, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 6 K, 1 BB.

La Crosse added another run in the fourth inning with Brayden Jefferis notching an RBI triple to put the loggers up 4-2. La Crosse continued to pour things on in the home half of the fifth courtesy of a two-run blast to right field from Eli Small, putting La Crosse up 6-2.

After the Loggers added another run in the bottom of the 7th, Badlands would get on the board again in the top of the 9th, scoring on a wild pitch as they would go on to lose 7-3.

The Big Sticks have been really good throughout the season of starting and ending games off strong. However, they are looking for more consistency in the middle stretch by producing competitive at-bats and continuing to play fundamental team defense.

The Big Sticks will shift their attention to tonight’s game, looking to avoid the sweep and get back into the win column against the Loggers with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. CDT.
