Dickinson, ND- The Big Sticks redeem themselves after yesterday’s lost and win 11-6 against the Rox.
The night started off big in the top of the first with a two-run homer from Jackson Hauge. The Sticks would respond in a bottom of the first when Kaden Carpenter would continue his tear at the plate and hammer a 3-run homer of his own. The starting pitcher Max Stanley would not last past the first inning and Nathan Anderson would come in. After the excitement of the first inning, neither team would score for four straight innings. Anderson would hold it down for the Rox, recording 5 strikeouts and only gave up 2 hits, 1 walk and 1 earned to runs. For the Big Sticks, Oliver Ward would go for 5 innings, striking out 5 and did not give up a single walk.
The action would resume in the bottom of the sixth, when Quade Peters would be subbed into the game and hit an RBI single. Next, Marcus Romero would slam a double to the fence, scoring Jake Paczkowski easily. Tristan Ellis would end the inning with an RBI single into left field to give the Sticks a 6-2 lead. The Rox would finally score again in the top of the seventh on an Austen Roellig single to center field. Luke Doty would then cross the plate on a fielders choice. In the bottom 7th, Quade would strike again with a double into the gap and score two runs. Paczkowski would follow Quade with a 2-run single into center.
In the top of the 8th, the Rox would make one last push to regain control of the game. Ben Higden would crush a 2-run homer over the left field fence. In the bottom of the 8th, Mason Strong would score on an overthrow at third base. Dylan Cortes would retire all three batters in the ninth to close out the victory for the Sticks. The Sticks 11 runs came on 10 hits and a key to their success tonight was the 9 bases that were stolen on Rox catcher Andrew Savage. The Big Sticks will be heading to Mankato for their two games series against the Moon Dogs. First pitch tomorrow will be at 6.35.
