Battle Creek, Mich.—The Battle Creek Bombers made quick work of the Waterloo Bucks, quite literally, to win their fourth game. In the shortest game for the Bombers this season, lasting just a shade over two hours, the Bombers won by a score of 3-0 for their third straight.

Alex Hermeling (Louisiana-Monroe) was on the mound for the Bombers and he was a force to be reckoned with. The 6’6’’ hurler, who carried a no-hitter through five innings, finished with 7 scoreless innings pitched and 6 strikeouts.

“I felt like I had good stuff today, great defensive plays behind me and clutch hits allowed us to win” commented Hermeling following the victory—his first of the year. “It was a great complete team victory for us.”

After the game field manager Dan Trivett echoed the same sentiment, “quality pitching with good defense will keep you in every game.  We did that to the tee tonight.”

When asked about Hermeling’s start Trivett could not help but smile before putting the game into perspective.  “I tell you what, that’s as good as a game you’re going to see pitched all year right there.”

Trivett was quick to mention that Hermeling’s replacement, Dakota Mekkes (Michigan State), was equally impressive.

“Look at the numbers, he’s right at the top of the league” said Trivett of Mekkes. “He’s special.”

The man who caught for both of the impressive Bombers pitchers on the night, Henri Lartigue (Ole Miss), had a good night in the batter’s box as well.

Lartigue went 2-3 against the Bucks with two RBIs that helped to secure the Bombers victory.

The Bombers look to sweep the Bucks tomorrow before they go on the road to take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks. First pitch is at 7:05 PM at C.O. Brown Stadium.
