Battle Creek Suffers Loss in Final Regular Season Game

Madison, Wis. – In game number 72 and the final game of the 2017 Northwoods League regular season it was the hometown Madison Mallards who came out on top 6-1 over the Battle Creek Bombers.

The Bombers (42-30, 22-15) suffered their sixth loss to the Mallards (38-34, 19-18) and their third at Warner Park, as Battle Creek was swept by Madison for the second time this season.

Battle Creek got the start from left-hander Tyler Kirkwood (Delta College) who went 6.0 innings allowing four runs on six hits, as he would suffer the loss.

The offense was halted to just one run on five hits, as the lone run came off a solo home run from Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech).

Catcher Aaron Antonini (Middle Tennessee State University) had himself a multi-hit game, while Cody Hawken (University of Portland) and Gavin Homer (McHenry County College) each picked up a hit.

Ashton Knutson (Ridgewater College) tossed 2.0 innings of relief allowing two runs on three hits.

While the Mallards 2017 season will come to a close, the summer continues for Battle Creek with postseason play.  Game one of the playoffs will begin tomorrow night, as BC will host the Rockford Rivets for the first playoff game at C.O. Brown Stadium since 2011.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET, with right-hander Dakota Edwards (Cal State Stanislaus) getting the start for the Bombers.
