Jones Blasts League Leading 9th & 10th Home Runs

The bulk of the Rochester offense came from the bat of Corey Jones (Cal State Fullerton), who blasted a pair of home runs to increase his league-leading total to 10. Jones hit a two run shot to deep right field in the third inning to start the scoring and give the Honkers a 2-0 lead. Jones capped the Honkers scoring in the fifth. This time his solo blast to right cleared the scoreboard and banged off the roof of a bungalow nestled behind it. Jones led the Honkers offense with a 3-for-4 day, including the two homers and scoring two runs and three RBI in their 4-1 win.

Gagnon’s Gem Gives Honkers Win

The Honkers got a gem from starter Drew Gagnon (Long Beach State) Wednesday to defeat the Duluth Huskies 6-0. Over seven innings Gagnon allowed just a single hit and two walks while striking out seven and allowing no runs to cross the plate. Gagnon’s effort earned him the win, moving his record to 3-1 on the season. Honorable Mention: Bryce Uhrig (Pepperdine) picked up his second win of the year, tossing seven innings of one-hit ball for the Alexandria Beetles. At one point, the righty faced 19 straight Waterloo batters without allowing a hit. He struck out four and walked two and gave up an unearned run in the Beetles 5-1 victory.
