With two outs and the bases loaded in the eighth inning and the game tied Michael Giller (Illinois) waited the count out to 3-2 and then delivered the pitch over the right field wall for a 9-5 lead for the Waterloo Bucks. Giller ended the evening with two hits and five at-bats, sparking a team offensive output that featured seven hits. Despite Giller's heroics the South Division leading Eau Claire Express would answer with a 6-run top of the ninth to claim the victory. Giller was named the NWL Player of the Night on June 18th after delivering another two-strike, two-out clutch hit for the Bucks; a double that scored the tying run in a Waterloo victory.
