Matt Fyffe (Eastern Kentucky) was sensational on the hill for the Alexandria Beetles, blanking the Duluth Huskies 3-0 at Wade Stadium. Fyffe (1-1) surrendered six hits in the complete game shutout, walking two while striking out a season high five. Fyffe didn’t allow a runner past second base all night.

Giller Crushes Go-Ahead Grand Slam For Waterloo

With two outs and the bases loaded in the eighth inning and the game tied Michael Giller (Illinois) waited the count out to 3-2 and then delivered the pitch over the right field wall for a 9-5 lead for the Waterloo Bucks. Giller ended the evening with two hits and five at-bats, sparking a team offensive output that featured seven hits. Despite Giller's heroics the South Division leading Eau Claire Express would answer with a 6-run top of the ninth to claim the victory. Giller was named the NWL Player of the Night on June 18th after delivering another two-strike, two-out clutch hit for the Bucks; a double that scored the tying run in a Waterloo victory.

Just two games were on the Monday night schedule as the South Division leading Eau Claire Express continued their amazing first half with a 6 run explosion in the top of the 9th inning to win in Waterloo.

Varce Strikes out Nine in Bullfrogs 2-0 Win

It was Green Bay starter Zach Varce who won the pitcher’s duel on Sunday afternoon, as the Bullfrogs dropped the Waterloo Bucks in a 2-0 win. Varce (Portland) fanned nine Bucks’ batters and surrendered three hits over seven innings on the hill to earn his first win of the season. Varce pushed his league leading strikeout total to 49, which are 17 more than Tim Griffin (Rollins) of Mankato.

Mutcheson Leads ‘Chucks to Victory

Leading the way for Wisconsin in their 4-2 victory over La Crosse was Mike Mutcheson who was 2-4 with a run scored. Mutcheson (New Mexico JC) had two of the Woodchucks five doubles on the night.

Ringenberg Steps Up For Eau Claire

Jon Ringenberg (Baylor), the every day first baseman for the Express, but made his second start on the mound Saturday night in the biggest game of the season so far. Ringenberg was fantastic in earning his first victory of the season as the Express took hold of first place with a 2-1 victory over Madison. Ringenberg gave up a run in the first inning, but did not look back after that. He pitched eight innings, allowing one run, four hits and struck out six Mallards. Honorable Mention: Mankato's John Brebbia (Elon) earned his first save of season by pitching 2.2 innings of near-perfect baseball. Brebbia entered the game in the seventh with the tying and go-ahead runs on third and second. He responded by striking out the next two Duluth hitters as he finished with five strikeouts while allowing just one hit in helping the MoonDogs expand their lead in the North Division.

Brantly Leads Loggers Over ‘Chucks In Extras

Robert Brantly (UC-Riverside) had a solid night for La Crosse going 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, including the game winner in the 10th inning of the Loggers 5-4 win over Wisconsin. The catcher had a double and a sacrifice fly that tied the game in the 5th inning.

Mankato MoonDog Cody Fick (Evansville) is happy to be playing baseball again after missing all of 2008 from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, a disorder which affects blood flow and nerve response to the arms due to compression in the shoulder area and can be life-threatening.
