Kenosha, WI — December 16, 2013. The Kenosha Kingfish have announced the signing of freshman pitcher Joe Schindler and sophomore first baseman and outfielder Zach Jones from Northwestern University for the summer of 2014.

Schindler, who stands 6’1” and weighs 190-pounds, will join the Kingfish after completing his first season with the Wildcats. As a native of Eugene, Oregon, Schindler starred at South Eugene High School, where he was second-team All-State as a senior, posting a 1.80 ERA with 81 strikeouts in 53 innings and a 5:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Schindler batted .465 as a junior and .509 as a sophomore. Schindler also played club baseball for four seasons with the Eugene Challenges from 2010-2013, pitching the winning 2012 AAA Legion State Title game.

Jones, a 6’1”, 200-pound sophomore native of Glenview, Illinois, also comes to Kenosha after his second season with the Wildcats. Jones batted .300 with six doubles, 14 RBIs, 18 runs scored, and 39 total bases for the season. Jones appeared in 39 games and made 25 starts in his freshman campaign. He was also awarded Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice in 2013, the first Northwestern player to obtain the honor two times in one season.

Jones starred at Glenbrook High School, where he also lettered in football and basketball. As team captain, Jones batted .463 with 16 doubles, six triples, and 29 RBIs, resulting in MVP status his senior year. As a junior, he hit .469, setting a school record. Jones was named second-team All-State, Central Suburban League All-Star, two-time All-Conference selection, and Prep Baseball Report named him as a top-40 player in Illinois. Jones played for Glenview Legion and the Glenview Bombers in the summer.

The Kingfish will host their season opener against the Mankato MoonDogs on Saturday, May 31st at 6:05 pm at Kenosha’s Historic Simmons Field. Single-game tickets will go on sale in April.
