2017 Kenosha Kingfish Summer Internships

Big Top Baseball is the largest and most successful summer collegiate baseball ownership group in the nation attracting more than 500,000 fans in 2016. BTB annually hires more than 70 interns for its Northwoods League franchises, the Green Bay Bullfrogs, Madison Mallards, Kenosha Kingfish, and Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. Each team plays 36 home games from late May through August. Internships run from mid-May through the completion of the season, near the end of August. Every summer the interns work directly with the management staff.  Interviews have begun and will continue to do so until all positions are full.    

Currently 22 of Big Top Baseball’s 28 full-time staff completed an internship or seasonal position with one of its four teams prior to their full-time employment.  Former interns have gone on to work for the Carolina Panthers, Milwaukee Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks, TREK Bicycles, and various minor league and summer collegiate league baseball teams. 

All interns will receive a travel and housing stipend.  All interns must receive college credit for the internship OR this internship must qualify for a graduation requirement.

Besides game day duties, each intern will be responsible for helping prepare and maintain the ballpark prior to the start of the season as well as participating in offsite catering events. Offsite catering events include managing part time staff, set up and tear down of the event and fulfilling any special requests made by the customer. All interns will participate in a weekly sports management class that will be instructed by front office personnel. 

In addition to your specific area of focus, all interns will have the opportunity to work with the staff to gain experience in the marketing and ticket sales department.  Sales tasks will include calling renewals and single game ticket buyers, creating surveys to gauge the fan experience, answering incoming phone calls, placing ticket orders, and delivering tickets to clients.  Marketing tasks will include creating on field promotions and nightly promotions as well as brainstorming ideas for new sponsorship prospects.

Digital Media and Video Board Production Internship

The Kenosha Kingfish are seeking an individual to operate the team’s full color outfield video board for all 36 home games this summer and produce digital media for the team. The digital media production intern will serve under the close supervision of the Director of Marketing. This individual will assist the Director of Marketing to ensure that all sponsorship and advertising contracts are fulfilled.  They will also assist the PR Intern on editing photos for the team’s website.  This intern will work 9:00 am through the completion of the game on all 36 home game days as well as non-game days. Please provide examples of graphic design work or a link to your portfolio with your application.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Become an expert with our video board software
  • Create images with sponsor logos to be shown on the video board throughout the game
  • Create player cards for all home and visiting players
  • Coordinate with PA Announcer on timing and execution of in-game requirements and game-day script
  • Assist with various graphic design projects as needed
  • Assist the PR Intern in creating graphics
  • Assist the Video Production and Webcast Intern in producing video content for use on the video board
  • Creating motion graphics/animations if you have the skills

Required Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of Adobe Photoshop is a must

    • Experience in Adobe AfterEffects and Premiere Pro a huge plus
  • Must be a creative thinker and do well in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have an extensive knowledge of the flow of a baseball game

Public Relations Internship- FILLED FOR 2017

The Kenosha Kingfish are searching for an individual to assist in the team’s public relations department for the summer. This individual will primarily write stories about the Kingfish team and update the Kingfish website with new and exciting content. This individual will also assist the Kingfish PA Announcer and keep the official score during home games. The public relations intern will serve under the close supervision of the General Manager.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Help to provide new content to each day (includes game previews, post-game recaps and special event stories)
  • Help to write feature stories for each home game that will go into the Kingfish game day program (The Daily Catch)
  • Assist the Kingfish PA Announcer and serve as the Kingfish official scorer during home games, using Pointstreak Software
  • Assist local media outlets with interview requests, both television and print
  • Assist management in team travel and meal plans throughout the summer

Required Skills:

  • Exemplary writing ability
  • Previous knowledge of scoring a baseball game required
  • Ability to adapt on the fly in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be capable of taking direction in completing assigned tasks under direct supervision

Webcast Producer

The Kenosha Kingfish are searching for an individual to assist in producing a 4-camera webcast for each of the 36 home games. This individual will help manage 10-15 camera operators. Last season the Northwoods League drew over 1 million views on their webcasts league-wide. The webcast producer/sales intern will serve under the close supervision of the General Manager. This intern will work directly with the General Manager to not only ensure a quality broadcast of the game, but also ensure sponsorships are fulfilled for commercial breaks. Additionally, this intern will have the opportunity to help the Kingfish sales staff and gain experience in the Kingfish sales department. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Reporting directly to the General Manager
  • Assisting or helping to manage camera operators and develope a schedule so that each of the 36 home games are covered with three camera operators
  • Assisting or helping operate a switcher and four-camera set-up to broadcast each Kingfish home game online at NorthwoodsLeague.TV
  •   Assist with motion graphic creation for in-stadium video board, including motion player cards using a green screen
  •  Working with the Director of Marketing and Digital Media Production intern to create short videos that can be used online and on the video board to enhance the fan experience. Examples include, video spoofs, mascots doing crazy things, etc… 


Required Skills:

  • Previous experience with Final Cut Pro or iMovie on a MacBook isn't required, but is a skill you will need to learn. Previous experience in either of these will improve your standing (a sample of video editing may be asked for)
  • Must be a creative thinker with the ability to think of new, fun ideas to improve the fan experience through video
  • Abillity to problem solve on the fly
  • Excellent communication skills

Marketing Internship- FILLED FOR THE 2017 SEASON

The Kenosha Kingfish are searching for full-time marketing interns. Full-time marketing interns will serve under the close supervision of the Marketing Manager. These positions help ensure all sponsorship and advertising contracts are implemented. Additionally, marketing interns serve as the entertainment crew during all home games and special events.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Help implement sponsorship contracts while executing game day activities
  • Assist in coordinating all on-field promotions, pre and post-game activities
  • Help create new and fun on-field promotions
  • Attend mascot and player appearances in the community
  • Help purchase costumes or other items to coordinate with theme nights
  • Develop positive relationships with fans, clients, and community members to help promote the Kenosha Kingfish
  • Help deliver marketing material in Kenosha and surrounding communities
  • Execute multiple contests (Bat Kid, Best Seats in the House, Little Leaguer of the Night, etc.)
  • Help manage all social media outlets
  • Manage Kids Zone staff, set-up and order Kids Zone materials and prizes
  • Ensure that the ballpark is ready and looking presentable each game day

Photographer & Graphic Artist Internship

The Kenosha Kingfish are looking to hire a Seasonal Photographer & Graphic Artist to work with the Kingfish marketing team to photograph all Kingfish games and events and create digital art for use on the web, social media outlets and video board. Candidates must be available to work daytime and evening hours, weekends, occasional holidays and every game-day in season. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Marketing Manager and/or GM.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Photograph all home games and Kingfish events
  • Upload and organize photos
  • Create website graphics consistent with Kingfish brand, as needed
  • Create other marketing collateral as assigned
  • Create ballpark signage as needed

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated photography and photo editing experience
  • Must possess a strong understanding of digital and social media practices
  • Must have own camera, laptop and editing software
  • Must be familiar with the Adobe suite, particularly Photoshop
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral

Operations Internship (Food & Beverage)- FILLED FOR 2017

The Kenosha Kingfish are searching for 4-6 qualified individuals to assist in the management of food and beverage, hospitality and game day operations throughout the ball park. The operations interns will serve under the close supervision of the Director of Operations. All operations interns will assist the Director of Operations in game-day set up the ballpark and play a large role in the overall fan experience at Kingfish games.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure that all aspects of stadium operations are completed in a timely manner
  • Manage game day logistics and ballpark operations. This includes cleaning, food & beverage prep, stadium prep, maintenance, and etc.
  • Assist in management and staffing of game day employees
  • Attend weekly classes to enhance learning in all aspects related to sports management


Required Skills:

  • Be capable of taking direction in completing assigned tasks under direct supervision
  • Some knowledge or experience working with tools
  • Ability to think on one’s feet and problem solve
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.


Ticket Operations Internship

The Kenosha Kingfish are searching for individuals to assist in the Kingfish Ticket Office. The ticket operations interns will serve under the close supervision of the Director of Ticketing. The ticket operations intern will be assisting the Director of Ticketing in day to day ticket sales duties. This person will primarily be working with the ticket system to sell tickets to customers over the phone and in person at the box office.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Answer phones and direct customers to the appropriate Kingfish staff member
  • Complete mail orders, ticket swaps, and voucher redemptions
  • Work with ticketing software to sell customers tickets over the phone or in person
  • Help to manage part-tome employees and setting their work schedules for game days and non-game days
  • Deliver tickets to sponsors
  • Inform customers of different seating options and ticket packages the Kingfish offer
  • Attend weekly classes to enhance learning in all aspects related to sports management

Skills Include:

  • Interest in working in the ticketing industry
  • Customer service background or experience
  • Outgoing personality

Radio Announcer Internship- FILLED FOR 2017

The Kenosha Kingfish are searching for an individual to serve as the internet radio/video broadcast play by play and color announcer for all 72 regular season Kingfish games in addition to possible playoff games. Kingfish games are broadcast online through The radio announcer travels with the team on the road. The season begins after Memorial Day and runs through mid-August.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Play by Play and color announcing for all 72 Kingfish regular season and playoff games if necessary
  • Write post-game recaps on all games and send out to the media
  • Conduct recorded interviews with players and coaches for use during broadcasts.
  • Occasionally conduct on air interviews with players, coaches, sponsors, community members, league representatives or dignitaries
  • Produce the game radio broadcast on a daily basis
  • Ability to work non-traditional and long hours including evenings and weekends
  • Work with the webcast producer for the pre-game show, post-game show and game broadcast
  • Assist front office with information on the team as necessary
  • Occasionally help communicate information between front office and coaches/team and vice versa
  • Inventory all equipment and help in take down of the press box after the season

Required Skills:

  • Previous game announcing experience preferred
  • Radio production experience preferred
  • Mastery in the understanding of and ability to describe the game of baseball
  • Excellent writing, communication and problem solving skills
