Kingfish Sweep The Rafters To Start Inaugural Season 2-0

The Kenosha Kingfish defeated the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters tonight 5-2, to sweep the first series of the inaugural season.

Connor Kelly, a 6’5” RHP from Chandler Gilbert Community College made his debut start for the Kingfish and settled in as the night went on. Kelly struck out 3 batters during one stretch in the 4th and 5th inning and had a total of 4 Ks on the night in 5 innings pitched.

The Kingfish fell behind in the 3rd inning but came back swinging.  First Baseman, Zach Ratcliff from the Ohio State University, started off the 5th inning with a double and designated hitter, Steven Sensley, followed up with a single.  Shortstop, Zack Kolakowski, doubled and drove in both Ratcliff and Sensley, giving the Kingfish a 2-1 lead.

The 6th inning was just as strong for the Kingfish with a leadoff triple from Kyle Brooks who later scored thanks to a sacrifice fly from Pat Porter.  The Kingfish widened the lead in the 8th inning with a couple of walks and a wild pitch later scored Jeff Edwards.  Rafters pitching remained wild in the 9th as Steven Sensley scored off another wild pitch to make the score 5-2.

Steven Klimek took the mound in the 6th inning and followed Kelly with 4 strikeouts on the night. Brett Shimanovsky came into the close the game and struck out 2 players in the 9th to sweep the series over the Rafters.
