Kingfish Fall To The Loggers In Close Call

The Kingfish fought valiantly against the La Crosse Loggers tonight but fall in a close call of 7-6.

The Kingfish continued to struggle with leaving runners on base.  They left the bases load in the top of the second and the Loggers scored a pair in the bottom half of the inning to give them the lead.

The Kingfish countered in the top of the third with a monster home run to deep right-center field from Zach Ratcliff. Starting pitcher J.D Nielsen went an easy one, two, three in the bottom of the third and look strong going forward.  On the Night, Nielsen went five and one third innings.

The score stayed the same until the fifth inning when the Kingfish scored a pair thanks to another Ratcliff home run, this one to center field. Ratcliff leads the team with 13 RBIs and four homeruns. The Kingfish continued with two more runs in the sixth on a Steven Sensley homerun, his first of the year. The score at the end of the sixth gave the Kingfish a 5-2 lead.

The Loggers came back however, and scored two in the bottom of the sixth and three in the bottom of the eighth off of closing pitcher Brett Shimanovsky.

The Kingfish would get within one run after a RBI by Spencer Gaa in the top of ninth but couldn’t push the game-tying run home from third base, falling by one to a score of 7-6.

The Kingfish take on the La Crosse Loggers tomorrow for the final game and then return for a two series home stand. The first game is set for Sunday, June 8th at 3:05 p.m. against the Kalamazoo Growlers.
