Kenosha, Wis. – It was a well fought battle between the third place La Crosse Loggers and the fourth place Kenosha Kingfish tonight at historic Simmons Field. The Loggers struck early but the Kingfish responded by pulling ahead by four, until the ninth when La Crosse hit a three run homer to reclaim a lead of 10-9. The game ended with a combined 29 hits.

Starter Rico Garcia found himself on shaky ground in the first. He did however settle into a groove, pitching four innings with two strikeouts. Brett Shimanovsky and Garrett McKenzie came in and held off the Loggers until things unraveled for the bullpen in the final frame.

The Kingfish scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings respectively.  The bats were hot for the Kingfish as all but two of King Elvis’ crew getting hits on the night.

The fourth began when first baseman Alex Dunlap doubled, followed by Zach Jones singling. Jones was driven home by catcher C.J Saylor (3-4, R, RBI). Kyle Brooks led off the fifth with a double, and he was driven home by a Chris Godinez (3-4, R, RBI) single.  Pat Porter then stayed true to his run producing-reputation as he drove in Godinez to tie the game at 4-4. The ball kept rolling into the sixth when designated hitter Steven Sensley came up and crushed a home run to right field, his first of the season. The blast gave the Kingfish a 5-4 advantage in the sixth. A second run came in said frame as a result of a sacrifice hit from Alex Borglin that sent catcher C.J. Saylor home.

Kenosha would tack one more onto the scoreboard in the seventh and another pair in the eighth to bring things to 9-5. However the win was not to be for the Kingfish as the Loggers rallied for five runs in the ninth, including a three run homer to go up 10-9.

The Kingfish play one more game against the Loggers tomorrow evening at 7:05 p.m. before starting a road series. Tomorrow’s game will also recognize the host families for the players in Host Family Appreciation Night. The Kingfish will return to Simmons Field on Thursday, July 17th.
