Kenosha, Wis. – The Kingfish welcomed the Green Bay Bullfrogs to historic Simmons Field for a doubleheader Monday. The two teams split the series, with Dillon Mazzoccoli leading the way for the 2-1 Kingfish victory in the second game.

The Kingfish fell in the first game 11-7. It was a continuation of a previously delayed game and began in the 10th inning.  The game was tied at 7 apiece and the Bullfrogs had runners on second and third with no outs. Justin Peters came in to pitch out of the jam but was not able to, and Green Bay took the win.

In the second game, it was all Kingfish as they held the Bullfrogs to only four hits. Kenosha starter Dillon Mazzoccoli had perhaps the best start of any Kingfish hurler this year, keeping the Bullfrogs in check all evening. He went seven innings, allowing one run and two hits while striking out seven. At one point he retired an impressive 16 in a row. Before the night came to a close, Mazzoccoli would earn his third win of the year and lower his ERA to 3.07. He also was named the Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night.

The Kingfish bats warmed up in the third with the bases loaded with no outs, but were not able to make anything of it. They did, however deliver in the fourth with a similar situation. Taylor Douglas and Alex Borglin were walked, and C.J. Saylor singled to fill the bases with one out. Buddy Reed then slammed the biggest hit of the night, notching a two-RBI single to put Kenosha ahead 2-1.

With tonight’s win and the Wisconsin Woodchucks loss to the Lakeshore Chinooks, the Kingfish now only trail Wisconsin by one and a half games overall. The two teams are battling for the coveted second place position in the South Division and subsequent playoff berth.

The Kingfish next play on Wednesday at historic Simmons Field against the Battle Creek Bombers. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and the contest will see special guest “Mountain Man” of Duck Dynasty in attendance.

As the Kingfish continue their quest for a playoff berth, the ticket office will begin selling playoff tickets on Wednesday, August 6th at 9:00 a.m. For further information regarding playoff scheduling and ticket pricing, please log on to kingfishbaseball.com or call 262.653.0900.
