Kingfish Host Loggers for Game 1

Monday, August 10th at 7:05 p.m. at Simmons Field

Kenosha, Wis. – The Kenosha Kingfish (48-24) open up postseason play tonight when they host the La Crosse Loggers (40-31) at 7:05 p.m. at Simmons Field for Game 1 of the Northwoods League Divisional Playoffs.  Kenosha is the number one overall seed in the South Division after winning both the first and second half division titles.  The Kingfish and the Loggers split the 2015 regular season series, with each side wining four games apiece.

In their final regular season game, the Kingfish fell 10-6 at St. Cloud last night.  Eric Filia hit his sixth home run of the year and drove in two runs.  Jason Scholl added two hits and two runs scored.  Trevor Haas started and threw two innings, allowing two runs on three hits.   J.R. Holloway took the loss for the Kingfish.

Manager Duffy Dyer sends Rico Garcia to the mound tonight for the Kingfish.  The junior from Hawaii Pacific was 3-4 with a 3.88 ERA in nine starts during the regular season.  The 2014 Northwoods League All-Star selection struck out 47 batters in 48.2 innings pitched.  In his last start, Garcia took the loss against Green Bay after allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits in six plus innings of work.

Kevin Flemer will start tonight for La Crosse.  The sophomore from Oregon State was 3-1 with a 2.36 ERA in nine starts in the regular season.  Flemer faced the Kingfish back on July 4th, earning a no decision after five innings pitched with seven runs allowed, five earned, on six hits with five strikeouts.

If the Kingfish win tonight, they will host either Green Bay or Madison tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. in Game 2 of the Northwoods League Divisional Playoffs. The winner of that game advances to the best-of-three Summer Collegiate World Series.
