Kingfish Bring Four New Hitters Aboard

Kenosha, Wis. – The Kingfish are pleased to announce the signings of Tommy Hanson, Jack Yalowitz, Kian O’Brien, and Cullen Jozwiak to the team for the 2016 season.

Tommy Hanson just concluded his sophomore season at Minnesota Duluth. The Oakdale, Minnesota native posted an ERA of 4.58 and a record of 4-1. He made 12 appearances, five of them being starts, and was able to strike out 47. His freshman year was highlighted by a stretch of 6 straight appearances of not allowing a single run. During that time, he gave up one mere hit between those outings.

Jack Yalowitz, a graduate of Loyola Academy in Chicago, finished up his freshman campaign at Illinois. This year, he helped the Fighting Illini to a 28 win season. He hit .227 with 1 HR and 22 RBI. In addition, he showed off his base path speed with 13 stolen bases. In high school, he was named the North Shore Player of the Year and was a two-time All-Conference and All-Area selection.

Kian O’Brien is a freshman at Madison College and will be joining his teammate, Nick Kanavas, on the Kingfish this summer. O’Brien hails from Madison, Wisconsin originally, and in his freshman year hit .358 with 3 HR and 38 RBI. O’Brien also collected 10 2B, 19 walks, and 8 stolen bases. He came from a very successful high school career, being named All Conference, Conference Player of the Year, and First Team All State.

The Texas A&M Corpus Christi program has provided the Kingfish with Cullen Jozwiak. The junior from Brenham, Texas hit .206 this past season with the Islanders. He also drove in 6 runs and drew 11 walks in the 2016 campaign. His work at Texas A&M Corpus Christi comes off the heels of a strong performance at Blinn College where he held a .335 batting average and helped the Buccaneers to a regional championship and a NCAA Junior College World Series appearance. These players will be a key component for the Kingfish, especially early in the season. The Kingfish will open up play this summer at home against the La Crosse Loggers on May 31 at 7:05 CST.
