KENOSHA, Wis. – The Rockford Rivets (8-8) blanked the Kenosha Kingfish (5-11) on Tuesday night at Simmons Field, winning 5-0.
Rivets starter Brad Littleton (Lewis) lost a no-hitter with no outs in the ninth inning on a Mike Jarvis (San Diego State) ground ball that took a funky bounce over third baseman Tom Josten’s (Central Florida) right shoulder. Littleton faced the minimum on Tuesday, allowing one hit while striking out nine.
Jarvis came up with the knock in his first game with Kenosha after arriving late on Monday night.
Rockford struck first on a Matt Higgins (Bellarmine) RBI groundout that gave the Rivets a 1-0 first inning lead.
But Matthew Plisko (Macalester) settled down and went five strong innings for the Kingfish, allowing one run on two hits and three walks to go along with six strikeouts. The start was Plisko’s first on the season after five relief appearances.
Both teams remained quiet offensively after the first inning run until Jeff Heinrich (South Carolina) doubled on a soft line drive down the right field line to score Higgins in the sixth inning. Three more runs scored on a passed ball and a pair of errors to give Rockford a 5-0 lead.
Kenosha got its first baserunner in the sixth inning when Brian Vance (Saint Joseph’s) was hit by a pitch.
Littleton got the win for Rockford, and Plisko took the loss for Kenosha.
The Kingfish and Rivets will wrap up a three-game series on Wednesday at Simmons Field at 6:35 p.m. CT.
