ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford Rivets (12-12) defeated the Kenosha Kingfish (10-16) 6-4 on Friday night at Rivets Stadium after a ninth inning Kenosha rally.
RHP Keith Kutzler (UW – Whitewater) started for the Kingfish going 4.2 innings giving up two runs on five hits. Kutlzer finished with a career single game high outing of seven strikeouts.
LHP Nate Seprosky (Rhode Island) got the loss after 0.1 innings of relief allowing three runs on three walks.
Rivets RHP Trevin Eubanks (Valdosta State) picked up the win with 1.1 shutout innings thrown in relief.
Kenosha and Rockford struggled to score through the first four innings.
The Kingfish started the scoring in the fifth after a leadoff single by C Ryan Knernschield (Eastern Illinois). Knernschield came around to score the first run of the game on a wild pitch.
The Rivets responded with two runs in the fifth inning. Rivets DH Jake Vander Wal (Long Beach State) doubled to right field to drive in two and give Rockford the lead.
Rockford continued to pour it on the Kingfish with a four run frame in the bottom of the sixth on only one hit. Kenosha’s bullpen walked five batters in the inning while the Rivets batted around.
Kenosha rallied with three runs in the top of the ninth after a Rockford error and singles by Knernschield and Pearson.
The Kingfish return to Rivets Stadium on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CT.
