TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – The Traverse City Pit Spitters (20-13) picked up their eighth consecutive win on Saturday night after downing the Kenosha Kingfish (13-20) 6-2 at Pit Spitters Park.

RHP Kyle Jones (Toledo) started and got the win for Traverse City allowing one run in seven innings

RHP Kaleb Schmidt (Drury) started for Kenosha and got the loss after giving up an early lead.

Schmidt surrendered six runs on three hits while striking out six and walking seven.

Kenosha struck first taking a 1-0 lead into the middle of the second.

DH Roberto Peña (Florida) doubled to start the frame and scored on a RBI single by SS Jake Cosgrove (UC – Irvine).

In the bottom half of the second Traverse City tied the game 1-1 on a passed ball.

The Pit Spitters went on to score five more runs in the bottom half of the third inning after C Adam Proctor (Michigan State) hit a three run homerun over the right field wall.

Traverse City led Kenosha 6-1 into after three innings.

Kenosha’s bullpen took over in the fifth inning and did not allow a hit through the rest of the game.

RHP Matthew Plisko (Macalester College) dealt two scoreless innings striking out two while RHP Jon-Anthony Caban (UMSL) also shutout the Pit Spitters in two innings of work.

The Kingfish tallied their last run in the top of the eighth on a RBI triple by 1B Connor Mang (New Mexico) that scored 3B Nate Thomas (Saint Joseph’s).

The Kingfish are back in action Sunday night at Traverse City. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET.
