MEQUON, Wis. – The Kenosha Kingfish (2-2) beat the Lakeshore Chinooks (2-2) 7-4 at Kapco Park on Saturday night.

RHP Keith Kutzler (UW – Whitewater) started for Kenosha and was awarded the win pitching 6 1/3 innings. Kutzler allowed four runs on four hits while striking out three and walking five.

Lakeshore starter RHP Jake Carlsen (Northwestern Ohio) got the loss after he pitched 5 1/3 innings. Carlsen gave up five runs on seven hits while issuing three walks and striking out three.

LHP Colton Gordon (Central Florida) picked up his first save of the season pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings and allowing three hits.

Kutzler walked home the first Lakeshore run and allowed the second run to score on a 1B Griffin Doersching (Northern Kentucky) sacrifice fly to centerfield putting the Chinooks up 2-0 at the end of one.

Kenosha cut Lakeshore’s lead in half 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning on a two out RBI single by SS Jake Cosgrove (UC – Irvine).

C Luke Stephenson (Xavier) started the two out rally after a hit by pitch and scored on Cosgrove’s hit.

In the top of the fifth 1B Nate Thomas (Saint Joseph’s) tied the game 2-2 on his third homerun of the year.

In the top of the sixth Kenosha took its first lead of the night 3-2 on a bases loaded walk to LF Ethan Owens (Drury).

Kenosha plated its fourth run on a CF Brendan Hueth (Saint Joseph’s) sacrifice fly to left field that scored 2B Mitchell Buban (UW – Milwaukee).

On the second bases loaded walk of the sixth inning Thomas drove in Cosgrove and extended Kenosha’s lead 5-2.

In the bottom of the sixth LHP Troy Hickey (Madison College) relieved Kutzler and allowed two runs to score on a wild pitch and an RBI single.

Lakeshore battled back with two runs in the frame cutting the Kingfish lead down 5-4.

Kenosha tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning off two Lakeshore errors.

Buban drove in the seventh and final Kenosha run of the night on a sacrifice fly to right field that scored 3B Roberto Peña.

The Kingfish return to Simmons Field on Sunday to face the Traverse City Pit Spitters at 4:05 p.m. CT.
