TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – The Traverse City Pit Spitters (7-0) extended their Northwoods League record win streak to 18 games with a 3-0 win over the Kenosha Kingfish (2-5) on Tuesday night.
Pit Spitters starter RHP Andrew Hoffman (Oakland) shutout the Kingfish in six innings and got the win. From the first to the fifth innings Hoffman retired sixteen Kingfish in a row and allowed only one hit and one walk.
RHP Ben Stephens (Eastern Illinois) started for Kenosha and pitched five innings allowing three runs on four hits and four walks. Stephens struck out six batters and picked up the loss.
CF Brendan Hueth (Saint Josephs) led off the game with an infield single and extended his hitting streak to twelve games.
The Pit Spitters jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two RBI single by 3B Andrew Morrow (Michigan State).
Traverse City scored another run in the fifth on an RBI double by SS Michael Slaten (Benedictine College) extending the Pit Spitters lead 3-0.
RHP Sam Marhefke (Loras College) pitched three shutout innings in relief for Kenosha with two strikeouts.
The Kingfish return to Pit Spitters Park on Wednesday to finish their four game stint with Traverse City. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
