KENOSHA, Wis. – The Kenosha Kingfish (11-11) shutout the Battle Creek Bombers (7-15) on Thursday evening at Historic Simmons Field by a final score of 5-0,

The win was Kenosha’s seventh in its last eight games.

The Kingfish took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Mike Jarvis (San Diego State) RBI groundout that plated Brendan Hueth (Saint Joseph’s), who reached base with a leadoff ground rule double.

Jake Cosgrove (California-Irvine) clubbed his first home run of the season just over the left field fence in the second inning to give Kenosha a 2-0 edge.

In the third inning, RJ Pearson (Oral Roberts) lined a base hit into right field to score Luke Stephenson (Xavier) and put Kenosha on top 3-0.

Roberto Pena (College of Central Florida) tripled to deep center and then advanced home on the play on an overthrow in to third base to extend Kenosha’s lead to 4-0.

Battle Creek nearly scored in the sixth, but Hueth cut down Josh Sheck (California-Irvine), who was trying to score from second base on a single, at the plate from center field to keep the Kingfish’s lead at 4-0.

Hueth went 2-for-4 with a double and a run in addition to the stellar defense.

Kingfish starting pitcher Ben Stephens (Eastern Illinois) pitched six scoreless innings on Thursday night on four hits and one walk.

Ethan Owens (Drury) singled home Conner Mang (New Mexico) in the sixth inning to make the score 5-0 in favor of Kenosha.

Stephens picked up the win for Kenosha to even his record at 3-3. Battle Creek starting pitcher Walter Turcott (Earlham) took the loss and fell to 2-5.

The Kingfish and Bombers play again at Historic Simmons Field on Friday at 6:35 p.m. CT.
