Kalamazoo, Mi. – The Kenosha Kingfish defeated Kalamazoo Growlers 9-1 on Wednesday night.
Kenosha struck first in the third inning courtesy of a Drake Westcott double that scored Brady Counsell to make it 1-0. Later in the frame, Taylor Darden singled to score Westcott to increase the lead to 2-0. Two more runs scored in the frame before Drake Herrera grounded out to score Zach Carinci to make it 5-0.
In the fourth, Taylor Darden hit his first home run on the season. The two-run blast made it 7-0. Kenosha added on two more in the fifth to increase their lead to 9-0. Kalamazoo responded in the bottom of the fifth to make it 9-1. That score held for the rest of the game.
Dylan Freeman was charged with the loss after throwing five innings and allowing seven runs.
Kenosha pitcher Victor Loa was credited with the win after throwing five innings, conceding one run. Lin Chen-Wei followed Loa conceding zero runs in two innings of work. Jake Jakubowski threw a shutout eighth and Santiago Gomez threw a shutout in the last frame as the Kingfish won their fourth straight.
Kenosha (5-3) will take on the Rockford Rivets (4-4) in the series opener on July 14th. The first pitch will be at 6:35 p.m. CST.
