KENOSHA, Wis. — The Kingfish made the most of their second-to-last home game of the summer, using a four-run third inning and a dominant night from the bullpen to beat the Wausau Woodchucks 8-3 on Wednesday night at Historic Simmons Field. Kenosha finished with 12 hits in the win, while the pitching staff held Wausau to just one hit.

Wausau jumped in front early, scoring twice in the second inning on a Joey McLaughlin home run, but Kenosha answered right back with its biggest inning of the night in the third. Crete Slattery doubled home Will Matuszak, Matthew Cormier drove in a run, and the Kingfish capitalized on defensive miscues to plate four runs and take a 4-2 lead.

From there, the bullpen took control. Kaeb Stebbins delivered four scoreless, hitless innings in relief, striking out five and earning the win. Aaron Scott followed with two more hitless innings, as Kenosha pitching combined for 10 strikeouts and allowed just one hit across nine innings.

The offense kept adding on late. Kenosha scored three more in the sixth, highlighted by Tate Bender’s RBI triple, a run-scoring single from Matuszak and a sacrifice fly from Cormier. Cormier finished with three RBIs, while Slattery went a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI after entering the game early.

The Woodchucks added one run in the ninth, but the Kingfish had more than enough cushion to open the final home series of the summer on a strong note.

Kenosha and Wausau wrap up the regular-season home schedule Thursday night at Historic Simmons Field, with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. CT.
