RICHMOND, Ind. — The Kenosha Kingfish wrapped up the 2026 regular season Saturday night with a 2-1 loss to the Richmond Flying Mummies in what officially goes down as a six-inning ballgame at McBride Stadium. The Kingfish finish the regular season 37-34 and now shift their focus to the postseason, with Game 1 of the Great Lakes East Sub-Divisional Series set for Sunday evening in Royal Oak.
With the playoffs beginning less than 24 hours later, Kenosha used the regular-season finale as a chance to save arms, turning to usual catcher James Harrington for the start on the mound. Harrington gave the Kingfish a needed full-game effort, working all six innings while allowing two runs on seven hits. He did not issue a walk, struck out three and threw 64 pitches, 43 of them for strikes.
Richmond struck first in the bottom of the opening inning. Jackson Thomas led off with a single, stole second, moved to third and scored on an RBI single from Eli Bennett to put the Flying Mummies ahead 1-0. Bennett ended up driving in both Richmond runs, while Thomas scored both times for the Flying Mummies.
Kenosha’s offense had traffic throughout the night, but had trouble finding the big swing. The Kingfish finished with five hits and stranded eight runners, with Matthew Cormier leading the way by going 2-for-2 with Kenosha’s lone extra-base hit, a double. Peter Visconti, Crete Slattery and Will Matuszak also collected hits.
The Kingfish finally broke through in the fifth. Matuszak singled and later came home when Jaden Santiago worked a bases-loaded walk, tying the game at one. Santiago was credited with Kenosha’s only RBI of the night.
Richmond answered in the sixth to take the lead for good. Thomas doubled, and Bennett brought him in again to give the Flying Mummies a 2-1 advantage. The Kingfish did not get another turn at the plate, as the game became official after six innings following an incident on the field before the seventh.
Kenosha now heads to Royal Oak for the start of postseason play. The Kingfish will take on the Leprechauns in Game 1 of the Great Lakes East Sub-Divisional Series on Sunday at 5:35 p.m. CDT.
