Kingfish To Host Free Events Promoting Minority Interest In Baseball at Lincoln Park
Kenosha, Wis. – The Kenosha Kingfish have partnered with the Mahone Fund CEO mentoring program and the City of Kenosha to raise youth awareness and interest in the sport of baseball in the inner city.
Currently only 8% of Major League Baseball rosters are comprised of African American athletes. The Kingfish and the Mahone Fund CEO Alumni are collaborating to ensure that the nationwide decline in minorities playing baseball is not a trend in Kenosha.
"We see ourselves as the caretakers of baseball in the community and want to make sure that youth sports and baseball in particular are accessible for all," said Kingfish General Manager Jake McGhee. "We have a ton of great character players on our team and they are excited to join in this effort."
“Bob Lee Sr. and I approached the Kingfish and developed this partnership as a first step in a series of long-term opportunities to reintroduce and restore the fundamentals of youth baseball in the inner city. Our CEO Alumni are eager to give back to our youth and lead this initiative, which by the way has been a long time coming,” said Tim Mahone, Chairman, Mahone Fund.

The Kingfish will hold a free kids clinic for boys and girls ages 6-14 on Monday, July 27th from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Lincoln Park Ball Diamonds. Check-in begins at 9:30am at Diamond 1. Kingfish players and coaches will provide free hands-on training for all participants. Additionally, in conjunction with Greater Mt. Hebron C.O.G.I.C., Kingfish front office members and the Blue Crew will host a free neighborhood scrimmage at Lincoln Park on National Night Out Tuesday, August 4th at 7:05 p.m. Check-in begins at 6:00pm at Diamond 2.
