Kenosha, Wis. – The Kingfish (18-23) only scored 2 runs, but that was all they needed to defeat the 1st place Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The Kingfish took their second consecutive win with a final score of 2-1.
Kingfish pitching ruled the day, and held the 2nd best offense in the Northwoods League to 8 hits and 1 run. Chase Thurston took the mound, and had a bounce back performance from his start in Green Bay. He threw 5 innings, allowed 5 hits, and 1 lone run to score on a Demetrius Sims sacrifice fly.
The bullpen was equally as impressive. Andrew Burnick and Jesse Ellefson each pitched a scoreless inning of relief, allowing just two hits between them. Ryan Orr came on for the 6 out save, and was spotless. In his 2 innings, he allowed just one hit, and picked up his third save of the season.
Micah Coffey and Marty Bechina went back-to-back with RBI doubles in the third, which gave the Kingfish the lead. Matt Byars, Gunnar McNeill, and Dylan Rosa each got into the hit column once to combine for 5 total hits as a club.
The Kingfish will host the Rafters in game 2 of the series tomorrow night at 7:05 CT, then head to Madison on Tuesday night.
