Kenosha, Wis. – The Kenosha Kingfish (4-5) fell to the Kalamazoo Growlers (6-4) in an 11 inning game by the score of 7-5.
The Kingfish put five pitchers on the mound on Thursday night, starting with Kaleb Schmidt (Prury) and ending with Josh Serio (UW Milwaukee). Throughout the four hour and twenty-nine minute game, a combination of nine pitchers were used between both teams.
For the Kingfish, Will Wagner (Liberty University) and David Renning (UT Arlington) lead the way offensively. Wagner went 2-4 with one run and one walk, while Renning went 2-3 with two runs and two walks.
The seven runs for the Growlers came on fourteen hits through the 11 inning game. Jared Miller (Notre Dame) was the leader for the Kalamazoo bats, going 2-5 with two runs batted in.
The game went back and forth for the entire duration, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats for the majority of the game. The Kingfish took the lead in the second by a score of 2-1, lost it and then regained it in the fifth by a score of 5-2, and then the Growlers tied it up with a three run sixth. It wasn’t until the 11th inning when the Growlers took a 7-5 once manager Cody Piechocki got ejected for arguing a questionable call against his squad.
A well played game from both teams, showcased the same level of intensity and competition of last year, when six of their eight games were decided by three runs or less. The Kingfish versus Growlers are quite the spectacle when they face on these summer nights.
The Kingfish will go on the road starting this Friday, playing two games in Wausau and then taking on the Mallards in Madison on Sunday. They will be back at Historic Simmons Field on Monday, June 11th against the Mallards.
