Kenosha, Wis. – The Kenosha Kingfish (8-17) snap their drought against the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders (15-10) in the second game of the homestand by a score of 8-3.
On the mound for the Kingfish was Casey Kempner (Parkland CC), getting his first start of the season. Kempner ended up throwing 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, and striking out five batters on his way to his first win of the summer.
The rest of the game was shut down by Keanu Mendez (Concordia St. Paul) and Kevin Napoleon (Butler). Mendez pitched 2.2 innings, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out four. Napoleon finished up the ninth inning, allowing no runs and striking out one.
Fond Du Lac put Shane Ritter (Iowa) on the mound to begin the game. He ran into trouble in the third inning after giving up four runs to the Kingfish, which came off of four singles. His night ended early, only going 2.1 innings and giving up five runs.
Bubba Horton (Minnesota) and Connor Cook (UW-La Crosse) pitched the remaining 5.2 innings for Fond Du Lac, giving up one run and one hit combined. A good effort, but too little too late for the Spiders.
Leading the way at the plate for the Fish was outfielder Connor Doyle (San Diego). His final line offensively was one hit, two walks, two stolen bases and an RBI coming off a sacrifice fly. Jack Weiller (Virginia) also had a single and two RBI’s to add to the high scoring effort.
This offensive outburst is a great sign for the Kingfish, after dropping multiple games by one run.
The Fish look to keep up the scoring when they take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks tomorrow at Historic Simmons Field, first pitch set for 7:05.
