BATTLE CREEK, Mich. –  The Battle Creek Bombers (10-10) rallied in the seventh and eighth innings to down the Kenosha Kingfish (7-14) 7-3 on Monday night at C.O. Brown Stadium.

RHP Caleb Larson (Illinois) made the start for the Kingfish and threw five shutout innings giving up three hits with six strikeouts.

Kenosha started out the scoring with two runs in the top of the second. C Ryan Knernschield (Eastern Illinois) and 3B Roberto Peña (Florida) singled in the first two at-bats of the inning.

Knernschield went first-to-third on a pick-off error by Bombers starting pitcher Lyle Hibbits (Tyler Junior College) and was driven in by Pena on his first hit of the season.

Later in the inning Peña scored on a passed ball and the Kingfish led 2-0 into the middle of the frame.

In the top of the sixth Kenosha extended the lead 3-0 after DH Nate Thomas (St. Joseph’s) scored on a wild pitch.

Hibbits was removed after the sixth inning. He finished his night giving up three runs on five hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.

The Bombers tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh on three hits off Kenosha’s bullpen.

The Kingfish gave up four runs on four hits in the eighth inning to give the Bombers a 7-3 lead they would not relinquish.

LHP Troy Hickey (Madison College) picked up the loss on 0.2 innings in relief.

The Kingfish continue their four game road trip Tuesday night in Kalamazoo, Michigan. First pitch against the Growlers is scheduled for 7:05 ET.
