In front of a room packed with media, community members, and fans, the Lakeshore Chinooks were announced as the newest member of the Northwoods League, a summer league for college players. A standing room only crowd showed up at Concordia’s Center for Environmental Stewardship where Robin Yount, part owner in the team, unveiled the team’s name, logo and colors. Yount also announced that the team will play its games at the new Kapco Park, currently under construction on the Concordia campus in Mequon.
“One of our objectives with the Lakeshore Chinooks Northwoods League franchise is to develop players’ skills both physically and mentally in the hopes of helping them fulfill their dreams of getting drafted and playing Major League Baseball. While working in conjunction with the players’ college coaches, along with providing a professional organization around them in the summer, we believe the team can help as each player works to improve their game.
In addition to a tremendous opportunity to play against some of the best talent in the country, the location of the team will offer players a wonderful summer experience off of the field as well. The franchise is located in Mequon, Wisconsin a suburb of Milwaukee on the shore of Lake Michigan and only twenty miles from Miller Park. This prime location provides the players with plenty to do when they aren’t at the ball park and the chance to be in the shadow of Major League Baseball.”
