The Chinooks winning streak continues with a 6-5 win over the Battle Creek Bombers Friday night.
An RBI single off the bat of German Reyes in the top of the 9th inning, turned out to be the difference maker in yet another back and forth battle involving the expansion Lakeshore Chinooks. Now 3-0 with three one run victories, Reyes drove in Eric Aguilera – who doubled with one out – in the 9th, after Battle Creek was able to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth.
For a second consecutive game, the Chinooks were able to set the tone in the top of the 1st inning. With eight batters coming to the plate, the Chinooks took a patient approach and scored three runs on two hits and drew three walks to take the early advantage. The Bombers would rally and score four unanswered, before the Chinooks were able to tie the game and take a 5-4 lead in the top of the 7th inning.
Reyes led the Chinooks offensive attack, registering the franchises first triple in the 5th and delivering an RBI double in the 7th, on top of his big RBI single in the 9th. RBI’s were also registered by Aguilera, Matt Harjung (2) and Bre’ Kimbell, who was making his Chinooks debut out of Louisiana Tech.
After striking out five (all looking) in 1 2/3 innings 24 hours before, Tyler Sparger came in relief of Cody Glenn (who relieved starter Carson Beauchaine) – pitching another 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit, striking out three and walking one.
The same two teams continue their three-game series on Saturday, with the first pitch slated for 6:05pm from C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek, Michigan.
