The Lakeshore Chinooks came out swinging in a 7-2 victory over the Battle Creek Bombers Friday night.  The Chinooks logged 4 runs off 6 hits and 2 walks in the first inning as they chased Bombers starting pitcher Brian Valente after only 1 inning.

After the Chinooks batted through the order in the first, Eric Aguilera (Illinois State) kept his bat hot into the second inning when he jacked a 2 run homer over the right field fence to make the score 6-0.  “I was just looking for a good fast ball to hit. I was just fortunate enough to get a good pitch and put a good swing on it,” said Aguilera.

Aguilera added, “The past couple games we haven’t been stinging together consecutive hits and we put some together, moving guys along.  Once you put them together, runs come along pretty easily.  We have a good lineup and we expect a lot of runs.”

Andrew Waszak (Michigan State) pitched a strong 6 innings for the Chinooks, allowing only 2 runs on 5 hits to ink the win.  The only runs scored against Waszak came from a 2 run homer in the 4th inning by Casey Mulholland.

The Chinooks bats cooled off with a 6 run lead, but managed to add an insurance run in the 6th on a throwing error to second base that allowed Matt Morse (UAB) to score.

The Chinooks are on the road this weekend in Wisconsin Rapids before starting another 5 game home stand next week.  Monday features Kid’s Opening Day festivities with local mascot appearances.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm against the La Crosse Loggers.
