The Lakeshore Chinooks faced the Green Bay Bullfrogs on a cloudy night at Kapco Park. After an exciting home opener exploding for 10 runs in last night’s game and getting the first win of the season in walk-off fashion, the Chinooks bats settled down and the pitching dominated.

The 953 fans in attendance were on the edge of their seat when Chinooks starter, Kyle Bouman (Jefferson College) threw a no-hitter vs. the Bullfrogs through 8 innings with 6 strikeouts on the night.

Jace Chancellor (Lubbock Christian) came in for relief in the 9th leading to Green Bay’s first hit of the game on a slow roller to third. With two men on and the Frogs threatening, Chancellor settled down and got out of the jam leading to yet another nail bitter game in extras. In the 10th Donnie Hissa (Notre Dame) came in throwing a one, two, three inning giving the Chinooks hope for back-to-back walk off nights. Ryan Solberg (UM-Milwaukee) started the bottom of the tenth off with a screaming line-drive to the outfield with hope to yet another magical 10th. This dream came to a screeching halt when the Frogs buckled down getting two quick outs and throwing out the stealing Chinook for the third and final out of the 10th.

The Frogs bats charged up in the 11th after Mitchell Ghelfi launched a solo shot over the right field wall. Down 1 run heading into the bottom half Jared Fon (UW-Whitewater) led off the inning with a single. Mikole Pierce (UW-Whtiewater) then hit what looked to be a game changing double play, but a wide throw resulted in still a man on first. After another out, Bullfrogs pitcher walked Volach bringing up Ryan Krill. The clock struck mid-night for the Chinooks as a ground out ended the game falling 1-0 with a record of 1-1.

Asking Bouman about his outing, “I felt great on the mound, throwing in and out, Hollenbeck called a great game”. Like everyone in the stands, the no-hitter entered Bouman’s mind around the 6th inning, but for a very short time. Bouman pitched a stellar outing that will carry over into his next appearance.

The Chinooks now head to Green Bay to face the Bullfrogs up north. The next outing at Kapco Park is Tuesday June 4th against the Eau Claire Express. Fans in attendance will receive an Inaugural Game Poster!
