The Lakeshore Chinooks wrapped up their two game set with the Waterloo Bucks on Tuesday night at Kapco Park. After a one-sided game Sunday, game two was a pitcher’s duel where base runners were hard to come by. The Bucks struck first with an early run, but Lakeshore answered tying the game 1-1. Both teams had chances in the 9th inning but it took extras once again. Right as the top of the 10th inning started, the rain began to come down resulting in a long delay and ultimately canceling the game.

Waterloo started the scoring off in the top of the 1st inning. With a man on third base, Bucks batter knocked a grounder to first base resulting in an RBI ground out and an early 1-0 lead.

The Chinooks got going in the bottom of the 4th inning. Sawyer Polen (Kent State) and Aaron Machbitz (South Dakota State) walked for Mike Hollenbeck (Illinois State) who came up and roped an RBI single to knot the game 1-1 and record the Chinooks first hit of the game.

Lakeshore looked to take their first lead in the bottom of the 8th inning. After two quick outs, back-to-back walks put runners on for the Chinooks but could not convert keeping the score 1-1.

The Bucks looked to take the lead in the 9th inning. Waterloo had runners in scoring position with one out but the Chinooks shut them down heading into the bottom of the 9th inning.

With rain falling onto the Kapco Park turf, the Chinooks looked to end the game. John Norwood (Vanderbilt) wasted no time as he laid down a bunt single and a wild throw by Bucks pitcher resulted in Norwood flying all the way to third base. After two intentional walks to load the bases the Bucks returned the favor shutting down Lakeshore forcing extra innings.

After the long delay, gameplay was postponed until August 6th in Waterloo.

Chinooks starter Eric Hanhold (Florida) went six strong innings against the Bucks giving up one run on two hits and recording three strikeouts. Reliever Gunnar Eastman (UW-Milwaukee) came in for two innings and allowed no hits recording three strikeouts. Jack Landwehr (Illinois State) came in for relief in the 9th inning and found himself in a bases loaded jam and got out of the inning with no damage done.
