The Lakeshore Chinooks have added three players from the Big Ten Conference to their roster for 2014.  Michigan State’s Ryan Richardson and Cam Vieaux will join Spartan teammate Ryan Krill on the Bluff and Purdue Boilermaker Kyle Wood will bring both his pitching arm and hitting skills to provide valuable depth to Eddy Morgan’s squad.

Ryan Richardson, an experienced middle infielder from South Elgin, IL started 50 games for the Spartans in 2013 after suffering a shoulder injury at Nebraska in 2011.  The redshirt junior hit .286 with 54 hits and 25 runs.  A two-time All-State player at St. Charles North High school, Richardson thrives as a situational hitter and reliable .947 fielding percentage.

Cam Vieaux, a 6’5 left-handed pitcher, red-shirted his first year in East Lansing but spent the summer playing for the Southern Ohio Copperheads in the Great Lakes League. There he posted a dominant 1.55 ERA with 32 K’s in 29 innings pitched, including a complete game shutout of Grand Lake in which he recorded 11 strikeouts. Vieaux was a terrific three-sport athlete at Walled Lake Western High School in Walled Lake, MI where he also played football and basketball.

Kyle Wood played in 46 games for Purdue in 2013 and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, making his mark as a designated hitter with 5 homeruns, 24 RBI, and a slugging percentage of .409.  Projected as a key arm for the Boilers, Wood suffered a forearm injury that hampered his season after an impressive seven innings of work against College World Series qualifier Louisville.  The Orland Park, IL native pitched last summer for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod League where he hit .333 in 19 games and posted a 1-3 pitching record.

The Lakeshore Chinooks continue a strong connection with teams from the Big Ten Conference and look forward to seeing these three prospects join Ryan Krill on the 2014 Lakeshore roster.
