The Lakeshore Chinooks have signed two position players who are off to hot starts for their college teams this year. Catcher Carter White (Memphis) and Infielder Tanner Dearman (Wichita State) hope to bring their hot bats to the bluff as the Northwoods League opens in late May.

Carter White is a 5’11” catcher and first baseman from Spain Park H.S. in Hoover, AL. He will bolster the Chinooks catching corps with three years of experience behind the plate. In his junior season with the Tigers, White has a career batting average of .328 and an on base percentage of .430. This season, he has already hit 1 home run, knocked in 5 RBI, and has an on base percentage of .439 for Memphis (10-1) as they compete in the newly formed American Athletic Conference. Last season, Carter led the Tigers with a .412 on base percentage and nine sac bunts. An Alabama All-Star in high school, White represented the U. S. on the 2010 USSSA High School National Team that played international competition in Japan.

Tanner Dearman, a 5’7” speedster from Anadarko, OK has been the Shockers’ lead-off hitter this season and is off to a fast start with six stolen bases in his first ten games. The versatile Dearman started 43 games at second base and hit .301 in his freshman year, but also contributed as an outfielder and designated hitter. An All-State selection in Oklahoma and the 2012 Western Oklahoma Player of the year at Andarko H.S., Dearman will compete for time on the Chinooks’ infield, but will also add depth to the outfield. He’ll join Shockers teammate Garrett Brummett on the roster after helping Wichita State this season in which they have been picked to win the Missouri Valley Conference.

With their prowess of getting on base and scoring runs, White and Dearman look to play important roles with the Chinooks in the team’s third season of action!
