The Lakeshore Chinooks welcome Matt Borens (Eastern Illinois) and Chase Radan (UCLA) to the 2014 roster. The two pitchers will look to strengthen their pitching resumes by taking the mound against the talented hitters found throughout the Northwoods League.
Matt Borens, a lanky 6’7” right-handed pitcher from Monee, IL is playing in his junior season for Eastern Illinois where he plays with Chinooks teammate, Brant Valach and pitches on the same staff as two stalwarts from last year’s Chinooks staff, Joe Greenfield and Jake Johansmeier. After a stellar sophomore season in which he notched a team-high 65 strikeouts and posted a 4-4 record with a 4.30 ERA in 13 starts and 88 innings of work, Borens has stepped up as the Panthers’ #1 starter this season. His 1.67 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 27 innings currently leads the team. After a brief stint with the Mankato Moon Dogs in 2012, Borens looks to take over as an innings-eater in the mold of Greenfield, a Chinooks’ fan favorite.
Chase Radan is another right-handed pitcher looking to make his mark in the Northwoods. The 6’4” product of nationally renowned Mater Dei High School hails from Tustin, CA where he was named his school’s Pitcher of the Year in 2012 after registering 29 strikeouts and a 0.84 ERA. Last season, Radan redshirted during UCLA’s magical ride to the 2013 College World Series Championship. While yet to see action for the defending NCAA champs, Radan will come to Mequon eager to gain valuable experience in the competitive Northwoods. Last summer, Radan pitched for the Bellingham Bells of the West Coast League and posted a 2-0 record with a 3.91 ERA, 11 strikeouts and one save in 23 innings.
