Brett Siddall (Canisius) blasted a two-run homer in the sixth, and the Chinooks won game one of their doubleheader, 5-4.
Lakeshore starting pitcher G.J. Strauss (Florida Tech) gave up two runs in the first. Left fielder Alex Bacon advanced to first on an error by first baseman Ryan Krill (Michigan State). Strauss issued a walk to Pete Alonso. Bacon then scored on a single by Paul Dudek. Right fielder Brian Rodemoyer had an RBI sac fly in the same inning, and the Mallards led 2-0.
The Chinooks responded in the second. Madison starter Alex Pondick hit both Siddall and Sawyer Polen (Kent State) consecutively. The pair tied the game on a single by Carter White (Memphis).
In the third, Strauss walked Paul Dudek to start the inning. Rodemoyer collected his second RBI of the game that scored Dudek. Madison took a 3-2 lead.
Second baseman Jake Noll (Florida Gulf Coast) had a solo home-run that tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
Sterling Koerner (Florida Gulf Coast) replaced Strauss. He tossed three and two-thirds innings and received the win. Andrew Elliott (Wright State) picked up his fourth save of the season.
The second game of the doubleheader will begin 30 minutes after the first game. On Tuesday, the team will go on a five-game road trip against the Mallards, Kingfish and Woodchucks. They will return home on Sunday, June 22 for a six-game home stand.
