Last week, we announced the Lakeshore Chinooks top 10 moments of the 2014 postseason. The Chinooks swept the Wisconsin Woodchucks in the Divisional Series then went on to sweep the Mankato MoonDogs in the Summer Collegiate World Series and become Northwoods League Champions. Here are the top 10 moments from the post-season:
#10: Michael Morman’s Go-Ahead RBI World Series Game 1 – Mankato, MN
In Game 1 of the NWL Summer Collegiate World Series, the Chinooks and the MoonDogs were tied going into the top of the 8th inning. Lakeshore was able to take the lead on a Michael Morman RBI single. The MoonDogs would respond in the bottom of the 9th with a game-tying solo HR. The game would go 13 innings with the Chinooks eventually coming out on top!
#9: Kyle Wood’s 13th Inning Sac Fly World Series Game 1 – Mankato, MN
In Game 1 of the NWL World Series, the Chinooks and MoonDogs were tied in the 13th when Kyle Wood hit a sacrifice fly to score Jake Noll for the go-ahead run. The Chinooks would go on to beat Mankato 5-4 in Game 1!
#8: Hunter Devall’s Timely Pickoff World Series Game 1 – Mankato, MN
In Game 1 of the NWL World Series, Chinooks reliever Hunter Devall began his second inning of work in the bottom of the 10th. Devall gave up a lead-off single to Mankato's Ridge Smith. Hunter then picked off Smith at 1st for out number one, swinging the momentum back in the Chinooks' favor. Devall would go on to retire the next two batters and end the inning. Lakeshore eventually took Game 1 after 13 innings of play!
#7: Shaun Anderson Goes 8 2/3 Innings Divisional Series Game 2 – Mequon, WI
In Game 2 of the NWL Divisional Series, Chinooks starting pitcher Shaun Anderson threw one of the most memorable outings in Kapco Park history. Anderson went 8 2/3 innings, giving up only one run and striking out five. Shaun's outing led to a series sweep of the Woodchucks and helped propel Lakeshore into the NWL Summer Collegiate World Series!
#6: Mike Letkewicz Gets the Save World Series Game 1 – Mankato, MN
In Game 1 of the NWL World Series, the Chinooks took 5-4 lead in the top of 13th against the MoonDogs. Lakeshore brought in right handed pitcher Mike Letkewicz to close out the game. Letkewicz, who was a starter for most of the regular season, gave up one hit, struck out two, and recorded the save in Game 1!
#5: Zack Bowers’ Walk-Off Hit Divisional Series Game 2 – Mequon, WI
In Game 2 of the NWL Divisional Series, the Chinooks and Woodchucks were tied 1-1 after 9 1/2 innings of play. In the bottom of the 10th, with two outs and bases loaded, Zack Bowers hit a single to drive in the game winning run, advancing the Chinooks to the NWL World Series!
#4: Zack Bowers’ 9th Inning Grand Slam Divisional Series Game 1 – Wausau, WI
In Game 1 of the NWL Divisional Series, the Chinooks and Woodchucks were tied 4-4 heading into the 9th inning. Zack Bowers came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a grand slam over the left field fence. Lakeshore would go on to sweep the best of three series the next night at Kapco Park.
#3: Dominant Pitching by Pavlovich & Tuttle World Series Game 2 – Mequon, WI
After taking Game 1 of the NWL World Series, the Chinooks were just one win away from the Championship. Lakeshore turned to All-Star starting pitcher Joe Pavlovich to take the mound in Game 2. Pavlovich went 6 innings, giving up no runs and striking out seven. Jake Tuttle took it from there, going 3 innings, giving up no runs and striking out four. Together, Pavlovich and Tuttle shut out the MoonDogs and guided the Chinooks to their first-ever Championship!
#2: Luke Meeteer’s Go-Ahead Home Run World Series Game 2 – Mequon, WI
After winning the 13-inning Game 1 of the NWL World Series in Mankato, the Chinooks returned home to Kapco Park for Game 2. In the 3rd inning, Luke Meeteer led off with a solo home run to take the lead. The Chinooks would tally two more runs in the contest, but Meeteer's solo blast was enough to win the game and Summer Collegiate World Series!
#1: Chinooks Secure Northwoods League Championship World Series Game 2 – Mequon, WI
On August 15th, the Chinooks defeated the Mankato MoonDogs 3-0 in Game 2 of the Summer Collegiate World Series, capping off a truly memorable season and securing the organization's first Northwoods League Championship.
For the past two weeks we have unveiled the top 10 moments of both the regular season and post-season. It is safe to say that 2014 will always be a year the Chinooks will never forget!
