Mequon, WI – The Lakeshore Chinooks offense has been inconsistent this season, but it seems like it might finally get going. After scoring six runs in a loss on Wednesday, the team one-upped that on Thursday by plating eight runs. Ultimately, that was enough to defeat the Wisconsin Woodchucks 8-6. 

The Chinooks got on the board first, scoring in the top of the first inning. Greg Deichmann (Louisiana State) began the inning with a single, and the next batter, Jake Romano (Miami-Ohio), brought him home with a single. 

Chinooks starter Kevin Long (Lehigh) gave up a single run in the first inning, and that wound up to be all he would pitch. Marshall Kasowski (Houston) relieved him in the second, allowing two runs to put the Chinooks down 3-1. He did settle down after that, though, ultimately firing 4.1 inning while striking out a whopping 11 batters. 

Lakeshore came back to tie the game after plating one run in each the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, it was a Doug Kraeger (Richmond) sac fly bringing in Lucas Raley (Lake Erie College). The game was then tied in the fifth when a Kyle Fiala (Notre Dame) single brought in Anthony Massicci (Canisius). 

The Chinooks took the lead in the sixth, scoring two runs on RBI singles from Deichmann and Romano. The Woodchucks narrowed the gap in the seventh, scoring a run off of reliever Zac Lowther (Xavier), but the Chinooks quickly extended the lead in the eighth. In the inning, Massicci reached on an error that allowed Kyle Wood (Purdue) to score, and a Deichmann sac fly also brought in a run. 

Nick Brown (Missouri State) let up two runs in the bottom of the eighth to make it a one-run game. The Chinooks did plate one more run in the top of the ninth, however, to give themselves some insurance. Colby Fitch (Louisville) reached base with a two-out single in the frame, and he was driven in when Wood singled. 

Sterling Koerner (Florida Gulf Coast) locked things down for the Chinooks, earning the save while getting the final four outs of the game. He has been a great asset so far this season, posting a 1.86 ERA in 9.2 innings pitched. 

Fitch led the way in hits for the Chinooks, going 3 for 5 with two runs scored. Massicci also had a particularly nice day, going 2 for 3 with a walk and scoring three runs. Deichmann, Romano and Wood all had multi-hit days as the Chinooks managed 13 hits total. 

The Chinooks now return home to take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs in a two-game series on Friday and Saturday. After that, they take on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters at home for two games.
