Green Bay, WI – After an exciting win Saturday night over the Green Bay Bullfrogs, your Lakeshore Chinooks hit the road on Sunday to face the Bullfrogs in game two of the series where they looked to earn themselves the sweep. After hot bats at the plate and solid pitching on the mound, the Chinooks earned themselves a 7-2 win and a sweep over the Bullfrogs.
Making his second start on the year for the Chinooks was Jack Landwehr (Illinois State) who came into the game with a 3-2 record and a 3.42 ERA in his 23.2 innings of work. Landwehr also came into the game off of a win on August 1st and earned his first win of the season against Green Bay back on July 10th.
The Bullfrogs got a small lead over the Chinooks in the bottom of the third after Marcus Shoemaker (Lenoir Rhyne University) hit an RBI double that put the Bullfrogs on the board 1-0.
It did not take long for the Chinooks to strike back. In the top of the fourth, the Chinooks got the bats going against Bullfrogs right handed pitcher Connor Hock (Notre Dame) who made his third start of the season and came into the game with a 4.50 ERA in his 14 innings pitched. Matt Johnson (South Dakota State) drew a walk and reached second off of a wild pitch. Owen Miller (Illinois State) brought Johnson home after he ripped an RBI single to tie it up at 1-1 while advancing to second. A balk by Hock advanced Miller to third and Hayden Senger (Miami-Ohio) stepped up and smacked a two out single that scored Miller and gave the Chinooks a 2-1 lead.
The Bullfrogs came right back at the Chinooks in the bottom of the fourth where they tied the game up at 2 apiece after Colton Onstott (Dodge City Community College) hit the second RBI double for the Bullfrogs.
The bats stayed hot for the Chinooks in the top of the fifth after Zac Taylor (Houston) led off the order with a triple and Matt Reardon (Florida Gulf Coast) brought him home after he ripped an RBI double. Miller stepped up and hit his second RBI of the game and gave the Chinooks a 4-2 lead.
Bullfrogs starter Connor Hock, was taken out after going 5.1 innings and gave up 4 runs. Dominick Golubiewski (Madison College) replaced Hock on the mound in the top of the sixth where the Chinooks racked up two more runs. Royce Ando (Michigan State) singled and Reardon got his second RBI on the night after he singled to score Ando. Joe Duncan (Eastern Illinois) ripped a two out RBI single to score Reardon and put the Chinooks up 6-2.
The Chinooks added on the final run of the evening after Taylor and Reardon ripped back-to-back singles and Duncan brought Taylor home on a sac fly that extended the Chinooks to an impressive 7-2 lead.
Landwehr went a strong eight innings only giving up two runs while he racked up five strikeouts. Nick Horvath (Florida) took the mound in the bottom of the ninth where he shut the door on the Bullfrogs and helped secure a Chinooks win. Landwehr earned his fourth win on the season and his second win against the Bullfrogs. Reardon and Miller both went a solid 3-4 at the plate while Taylor went 2-4.
The Chinooks will return home Monday night to take on the Battle Creek Bombers at 6:35.
