Madison, WI-The Lakeshore Chinooks improved to 2-1 on the season after a dominant 13-0 win over the Madison Mallards. The Chinooks took the first game of a two-game set in Madison with help from offensive stars Zach Biermann (Polk State) and Daniel DeSimone (Oklahoma State), along with seven shutout innings from starter Cyrillo Watson (Illinois).

The Lakeshore offense struck early with a first-inning two-run homer by first baseman Zach Biermann to put the Chinooks on top 2-0. This was the first home run of the season given up by Madison pitching, as well as the first home run hit by the Chinooks in the early season.

Connor Kimple (Oklahoma State) added to the Chinooks’ lead with an RBI double in the top of the 2nd, giving Lakeshore a 3-0 advantage.

In the top of the 3rd, Justin Bardwell (Fordham) added to the hit parade with a double of his own, pushing the lead for the Chinooks to 4-0.

The Chinooks’ bats added three runs in the top of the 4th, starting with a Daniel DeSimone RBI single, making it a 5-0 game in favor of Lakeshore. A Royce Ando (Michigan State) RBI groundout pushed the lead up to 6-0, followed by a Zach Biermann RBI double, giving the Chinooks at 7-0 lead.

Jett Manning led off the bottom of the 6th for the Mallards with a single, the first hit of the game surrendered by Lakeshore starter Cyrillo Watson. The leadoff single was for naught, however, after Watson got Cade Bunnell to ground into a double play.

Zach Biermann again added to the damage in the top of the 8th with his second home run of the game, a solo shot, to give the Chinooks a commanding 8-0 lead.

Adding to an already 8-run lead, Royce Ando started the scoring in the top of the 9th with an RBI single, followed by a Caleb Dean (Lamar) RBI single to add two more runs to the board and give the Chinooks a 10-0 lead. Zach Biermann wasn’t satisfied with an already impressive 3-5 day at the plate, as Biermann cleared the bases with a 3-run triple to run the score up to 13-0 in favor of Lakeshore. Parker Sanburn (Des Moines Area CC) was outstanding in two innings of relief for the Chinooks, tossing two perfect innings and striking out three to secure a 13-0 win.

Zach Biermann once again was the hero for the Chinooks, going 4-6 with two homers and seven RBI, while Daniel DeSimone broke out with a perfect 4-4 performance, driving in four runs.

Lakeshore starter Cyrillo Watson dominated the bats of the Mallards, earning his first win of the year with seven scoreless innings, allowing only three hits and walking just one, while striking out eight.

The Lakeshore Chinooks (2-1) take on the Mallards again tomorrow night in Madison at 7:05 as the Chinooks look to sweep the two-game series and improve to 3-1 on the season.
